Frore Systems comes out of stealth with over $100M in funding; announces new disruptive technology for the computing industry
SAN JOSE, California – December 1, 2022 – Today, Frore Systems unveiled AirJet®, the world’s first solid-state chip for active device cooling that is poised to change the computing industry. AirJet cools devices with breakthrough technology that meets the ever-increasing demands of today’s consumers, delivering a 2x improvement in performance while operating in silence. AirJet’s compact size and unique capabilities will enable faster, quieter, thinner, lighter, and dust-proof devices.
Heat is the single biggest problem facing the computing industry. The processor, the brain of any device, generates more heat the faster it operates. Until now, manufacturers have used antiquated thermal solutions like mechanical fans in notebooks, tablets, and other consumer devices to remove heat. These inadequate thermal solutions are causing the devices to overheat. To combat this, manufacturers have designed fail-safe functionality that prevents overheating by slowing down the processor after only a few seconds of operation. This means consumers never really get the full processor performance they pay for.
Frore Systems, which has raised more than $100 million in funding from leading investors including Mayfield, Addition, Clear Ventures and Qualcomm Ventures, has spent the last four years developing the AirJet Chip to solve this problem. Today, Frore Systems launched its first two active cooling chips, AirJet Mini and AirJet Pro. The AirJet Mini is 2.8mm thick, 27.5mm x 41.5mm in size, and weighs just 11 grams. The AirJet Pro is the same thickness and approximately twice the size and weight. AirJet chips are scalable, meaning that multiple chips can be easily integrated into devices to cool processors silently, resulting in major performance gains.
“Intel’s mission with Intel Evo is to unite the open PC ecosystem to deliver the best possible laptop experiences that people want. Engineering thin, light, stylish laptop designs that offer great performance while remaining cool and quiet are foundational to that mission. Frore Systems’ AirJet technology offers a new and novel approach to help achieve these design goals in new ways and Intel is excited about the engineering collaboration with Frore Systems to help ready their technology for future Intel Evo laptops.” Said Josh Newman, VP & GM Mobile Platforms at Intel.
“Heat is by far the biggest hurdle we need to overcome in computing,” said Patrick Moorhead, Industry expert and CEO and Chief Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy. “Thermally stressed hardware doesn’t perform optimally, and current thermal solutions fall short. I believe Frore Systems has reinvented thermal technology with its AirJet chip that doubles active heat removal with a thinner, silent solution that provides greater performance.”
“While the latest processors promise higher performance, only 50% or less is realized because the thermal solutions are still the same, old, passive or fan-based systems that are inadequate, noisy, and bulky,” said Dr. Seshu Madhavapeddy, founder and CEO of Frore Systems. “Thermal is the only aspect of modern-day computing that still uses century-old technology. In today’s devices, what often determines performance is the capability of the thermal solution and not the sophistication of the processor. We are excited to change the future of computing with AirJet.”
"Frore leverages the Renaissance of Semiconductors trend to put silicon back into Silicon Valley,” said Navin Chaddha, Managing Director at Mayfield. “Seshu and Surya are world-class entrepreneurs and technologists whom we partnered with at inception in 2018. It’s exciting to watch them deliver breakthrough products that solve cooling - one of computing’s biggest problems.”

About the Founders
Founders Dr. Seshu Madhavapeddy and Dr. Surya Ganti had a lightbulb moment in 2018 while working together on Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor business. After they saw the ongoing problem with heat and device performance, a problem that has seen little breakthrough innovation in decades, they decided to put their heads together to solve this challenge. Madhavapeddy had previously founded two successful startups, while Ganti had previously worked on breakthrough technologies at Qualcomm, GE Research, and MIT. Their blended expertise and shared vision led them to create Frore Systems.
